Short answer: the view is at Lower Düden, the texture is at Upper Düden. Lower gives you wide angles, sea and the city skyline. Upper gives you close water, greenery and the one frame taken from behind the falls. Six spots below, each matched to a photograph that is actually on this site.
The terrace on top of the cliff. You see the falls from the side, with the sea beside them. This is the classic Düden frame and usually the first photograph people take.
Tip: Go wide and keep the horizon level. The slope of the cliff tricks the eye into tilting the frame.
Put the falls at the edge of the frame and take in the whole bay. It makes the waterfall small, but nothing explains the place better.
Tip: Pan slowly from left to right. The water is moving, so a fast sweep leaves a seam across the falls.
The contrast that makes Antalya what it is: buildings behind, water going off the cliff in front. Nature and city in one frame is Düden’s signature.
Tip: Overcast does not spoil this one. Grey sea and white water are more dramatic than full sun.
The most unusual frame on the site: you are looking at the waterfall from behind. The curtain scatters the light and the outside reads as a blurred brightness.
Tip: You are in shade looking out at bright light. Lock exposure on the water curtain or the outside will blow out.
The whole curtain of Upper Düden with the woodland around it. This is the frame where you finally notice how wide the falls actually are.
Tip: The greens come out saturated. Left on auto, white balance can push the water towards blue.
The part most visitors skip. Running water, bankside planting and quiet. This is where you understand that the site really is a recreation area.
Tip: The best place here for a long exposure. The flow is gentler than at the falls and the frame is calmer.
Flow varies through the year. In spring the curtain is wide and heavy. Towards the end of summer it thins and more of the rock texture shows. The same spot photographed in April and in September gives noticeably different pictures. If what you want is a thundering waterfall, aim for spring.
Wind matters at Lower Düden too. In a strong breeze the spray reaches the viewing area, so bring a cloth for the lens or the phone screen.
There is no single answer, it depends on the waterfall. Upper Düden is wooded and shaded, so morning to midday is brighter. Lower Düden is on open coast. In the afternoon the light softens and the colour of the sea comes through.
No. There is no land route down the cliffs at Lower Düden. The head-on view from below is only available from the water, and boats run along this stretch of coast.
Yes. Most of these are wide landscape frames, which suits a phone’s wide lens. The one difficult spot is the passage behind the water: it is dark inside and bright outside, so you may need to set exposure by hand.
